Among the six Inter players whose contracts expire next June, there could be a surprise decision. Yann Sommer, Raffaele Di Gennaro, Francesco Acerbi, Stefan de Vrij, Matteo Darmian, and Henrikh Mkhitaryan are the names to be evaluated in the coming weeks, when Inter will have to outline the guidelines for next season.
In addition to the third goalkeeper, who could stay also for squad list reasons, according to Tuttosport Mkhitaryan is surprisingly heading towards staying. This is a striking decision, considering he is not among the youngest in the group and his profile does not exactly match the so-called “criteria” set by Oaktree. Yet his performances are still considered to be of a high level, with a physical condition that is overall solid.
For the other four, however, the situation appears different. Each has specific characteristics and issues, but for all of them a common signal seems to resonate: the end of a cycle. Technical and club evaluations will define the future of each in the weeks leading up to the opening of the summer transfer window.
Inter will have to balance on-field needs and economic planning. On one hand, the need to maintain experience and quality; on the other, the intention to follow a precise management line. The decision regarding Mkhitaryan could therefore represent an exception.
