Frattesi to Lazio, the Marotta-Lotito phone call unlocks the deal

The deal that brings Davide Frattesi to Lazio was unlocked thanks to a decisive phone call between presidents Beppe Marotta and Claudio Lotito. According to Il Messaggero, the midfielder will arrive in Rome in the afternoon to undergo medical examinations and sign the five-year contract that will tie him to the Biancocelesti until 2031.

The operation was at risk of falling through this morning due to a sudden bureaucratic issue. The two clubs therefore had to modify the terms of the agreement: Lazio will pay Inter about 5 million euros for the paid loan, reserving the right to buy in June for 10-11 million. Inter will also be entitled to 50% of the proceeds from the player’s future resale.

The initial structure of the deal provided for a loan at one million euros with an obligation to buy at 14 million, conditional on the player making 25 appearances for the Biancocelesti or the team finishing tenth in the 2026/27 season. In that case as well, half of any future capital gain would have gone to the Nerazzurri club. However, this formula would not have been acceptable to Lega Serie A in the context of a zero-balance transfer market.

Frattesi, who had waited at the airport without boarding the mid-morning flight to Rome (arriving at 12:40), will board the next flight to the capital. Landing at Fiumicino is expected in the mid-afternoon, after which the midfielder will undergo medical examinations and sign the contract.
