The Serie A League has officially announced the referee appointments for the fifth matchday, which includes the standout derby Inter-Milan, scheduled for Sunday evening at 8:45, where the Nerazzurri will try to beat the Rossoneri for the seventh consecutive time. The match will be officiated by referee Maurizio Mariani, with Bindoni and Tegoni as assistants, Ayroldi as fourth official, Di Paolo in charge of VAR, and Paterna as AVAR.

Mariani, born in Rome in 1982 and a referee from the Aprilia section, made his debut in the Serie A in the 2012-13 season and has been internationally recognized since 2019. So far, he has had a total of 152 appearances in the top league, in addition to 4 matches in the Champions League. As for the previous encounters with Inter, he has refereed 15 matches of the Nerazzurri, with a score of 8 wins, 4 draws, and 3 losses. His last charge was on January 28, 2023, in a Cremonese-Inter 1-2 Serie A match.

Mariani has also refereed three derbies between the Nerazzurri and Milan. The first dates back to October 17, 2020, coinciding with a 1-2 victory for the Rossoneri, while the second and third refer to the first and second legs of the Italian Cup semifinals 2021-22. The first match was a 0-0 draw at Pioli’s team’s home, while the second was a resounding 3-0 victory for Inzaghi’s team, who later won the competition against Juventus in Rome.
