Viviano critical of Ausilio's departure: reckless choice for Inter

Emiliano Viviano expressed harsh criticism regarding the lack of confirmation of Piero Ausilio as sporting director of Inter. Speaking on ‘Le Foot Toujours’ on Cronache di Spogliatoio, the former goalkeeper and now pundit described the Nerazzurri club’s decision as “totally reckless” both in terms of method and timing.

“The decision, because for me it is a decision, to lose the sporting director who in my opinion is the main protagonist of the brilliant transfer market, both from a financial and technical point of view for Inter in recent years, on the eve of what for me could be the season of consecration of a cycle that so far has not happened, sends them straight into the last circle of hell,” said Viviano.

The pundit highlighted Ausilio’s merits in resource management and squad building: “The level Inter is at today, in relation to the budgets and the decisions they have had to make in terms of departures and the results achieved, is something extraordinary. Much more than Como in the Champions League, which was seen as something crazy.”

According to Viviano, reaching two Champions League finals while simultaneously having to balance the club’s debts through major sales represents an extraordinary achievement. “The fact of playing two Champions League finals while systematically having to balance the club’s debts by often selling the best players, looking for new signings, taking free agents, not being able to draw from the coffers like other teams do in the Premier League or La Liga, in my opinion, is amazing,” he explained.

The former goalkeeper’s conclusion was clear: “You can’t offer just a one-year contract to a sporting director, it means you don’t believe in him and you’re pushing him to leave.”
