Nicolò Tresoldi struggles to stop smiling. Speaking to Sky Sport after the 3-4 win by Club Brugge over Inter at San Siro, the striker who scored the hat-trick described the evening like this: “I’m almost more nervous now than I was on the pitch, it was an incredible night, I’ve dreamed so many times of a night like this, scoring three goals at San Siro, with my whole family at the stadium, friends, it’s fantastic.”
Tresoldi experienced the match as a personal derby: “Before the match, many Milan fans encouraged me, but I’m happy for Brugge and for Belgian football, for me it was a derby, really something special.” On the topic of the national team — Italy or Germany — he preferred to close the discussion quickly: “There’s a lot of talk, many things have been said that aren’t true. I’m happy with my journey with Germany, I’m at Bruges, there are many Italian and German players much stronger than me.”
He then explained the tactical key with which Bruges faced the Nerazzurri: “Inter is the strongest team in Italy and among the strongest in the world, we wanted to press high, if we played with a low block they would have found it easier.” The Belgian team focused on intensity and man-marking: “We are a very young team, the coach told us to play man to man and to take advantage of mistakes. We run a lot and fast.”
Tresoldi acknowledged the lucky component of the victory, without hiding it: “We know we had a bit of luck, they missed a lot of goals, hit the crossbar, things went our way.” The second half, however, told a different story: “In the second half we played a good game. The fourth goal shows that we were in better shape than Inter, our striker alone without defenders going towards the goal undisturbed.”
