A real tragedy occurred this morning, around 9:40 am, in Fenegrò, just a few steps from the Inter sports center in Appiano Gentile. According to the first reports from quicomo.it, Inter’s second goalkeeper Josep Martinez was allegedly involved in a road accident.
The Spaniard, who was heading to Pinetina for morning training, is said to have hit an 81-year-old man with his car, who became the victim of the accident. The elderly man was on the road in an electric wheelchair and, according to la Repubblica, “may have suffered a sudden illness, veering into the opposite lane.”
Martinez, shaken by the accident, reportedly stopped immediately and provided assistance to the man while waiting for the arrival of the air ambulance and paramedics. However, the 81-year-old is believed to have died instantly, making the rescuers’ arrival in vain. As a sign of mourning, Inter canceled Cristian Chivu‘s press conference scheduled for 2:00 pm.
