The former Roma captain gave a long interview to the Corriere dello Sport in which he revealed one of the great regrets of his career. Francesco Totti‘s thoughts went to a former Nerazzurri striker who left his mark on Serie A in the nineties.
“I would have liked to play with Ronaldo the phenomenon. Imagine the fun we would have had together. With me behind him, he would have scored 4 or 500 goals. With my eyes closed,” declared the former number ten of the Giallorossi. A dream never realized, which according to Totti could have produced an extraordinary attacking partnership.
During the interview, the Pupone also spoke about his ability to anticipate plays, a skill that made him unique: “Most of the time I got it right. But those who played with me were also good because they understood what I was thinking a second before. And I’m talking about Delvecchio, Perrotta, Cassano. As soon as the ball came to them from the defender, they knew what move I was going to make.”
On Maradona, considered the greatest of all time, Totti had no doubts: “Maradona is football, he is the ball, there are no rivals. The others come after him.” A clear vision, which places the Argentine champion above anyone else in the history of football.
