Another muscular injury coming from the national team camps risks having a heavy impact on the Scudetto race. The latest incident, in chronological order, occurred in the Azzurri squad, as officially announced by the Italian Football Federation FIGC.
The player concerned is Mateo Retegui, striker for Atalanta, who comes off a tough league defeat against Inter. The Italian-Argentine forward struggled considerably against tight marking by a dominant Acerbi in the big Scudetto match and failed to score.
Regarding the battle at the top involving Inter, Napoli, and Atalanta, his officially confirmed injury could complicate things significantly for Gasperini’s side. As announced by FIGC, Retegui suffered a muscle strain in his right thigh and has already left the training camp of national coach Luciano Spalletti.
The striker, as indicated in the federation’s official statement, will not be available for the next two fixtures: Forward Mateo Retegui, who underwent diagnostic tests this morning for a muscle strain in the right thigh, was declared unavailable for both matches against Germany and has returned to his club for further evaluation.
