Inter’s championship campaign starts with a clear 5-0 win against Torino on the first day of Serie A. The Nerazzurri won on their debut in the new championship and, above all, gave joy to Cristian Chivu who – after the Club World Cup matches – was making his absolute debut at San Siro as Inter’s coach.
Inter-Torino was a rather simple match for referee Federico La Penna since he did not have to make very complicated decisions and limited himself to managing fouls and the minor protests that arose after some challenges. However, Corriere dello Sport also highlights a small mistake by the Roman referee, when at the end of the first half he whistled a foul in favor of Torino when it actually seemed the opposite:
“No yellow cards and just 20 fouls called (only 8 in the first half) are the picture of the match: easy in its conduct, but it must also be said that the Roman referee did well not to complicate things. Some mistakes in detecting fouls: the contact between Coco and Thuram, for example, seemed more like a foul by the Torino player (a basketball-style block), while on two other occasions, instead, he was right.”
