The absence of Mehdi Taremi from yesterday’s match between Iran and the United Arab Emirates caused considerable concern. For Inter, the situation in attack was already quite alarming, given that both Thuram and Lautaro Martinez had to return prematurely to Appiano Gentile from their national team commitments due to physical problems.

Taremi himself has clarified the reason behind his absence with Iran. In statements reported by Corriere dello Sport, the Nerazzurri striker explained that he has been struggling for several months with an injury. This led to a joint decision made with the medical staff not to take any unnecessary risks, avoiding potential negative repercussions with Inter upon returning to Italy.

This is what Taremi admitted: Unfortunately, I’ve been fighting and playing with an injury for five months. I didn’t take part in the match due to a decision by the technical staff. At the moment, I need to treat my injury to be able to help Inter. Fortunately, Inter’s coaching staff is supporting me, and I’m very pleased with that. My only concern right now is to stay in European football.

This problem appears to be more serious than initially assumed and at least partially explains why the former Porto player has faced significant difficulty adapting to Italian football and Simone Inzaghi’s playing philosophy.
