The former Nerazzurri footballer and longtime prominent member of Bayern Munich’s management, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, spoke with the Bavarian club’s official website ahead of Tuesday evening’s Champions League match against Inter. The former German striker once again paid high compliments to his former team.
“For me personally, this would have been an ideal final, as I feel attached to both clubs. I’m sorry that one of the two eventually has to be eliminated. These will be tough matches; there’s no beating around the bush. These are two top teams, and no one should think that we are favorites, because we’re not. It’s no coincidence that Inter reached the final two years ago against Manchester City and almost defeated them,” commented Rummenigge.
Finally, the former Inter striker praised Inzaghi’s team: “They have a fantastic defense, deserving an A+. But you can beat any defensive line. We simply must try to maintain the level we showed in the two round-of-16 matches against Bayer Leverkusen; then we will have a chance. We are a bit more dominant in midfield, but we need a good result in the first leg, because San Siro will be heated in the return match.”
