The management of the goalkeeper role at Inter continues to be a hot topic after the recent performances of Josep Martinez. The debate is growing over who should guard the posts on Saturday night against Roma, with several observers calling for a chance for Ivan Provedel.
According to Corriere dello Sport, the former Lazio player should have already received his first opportunity in the match against Udinese. The newspaper reveals a significant behind-the-scenes detail: “Now Pepo’s deputy is Provedel, signed as a safe alternative. And he too will soon have his chance. In fact, he probably would have already had it against Udinese. But after Madrid, it was not the right time to make a change. It would have been counterproductive. So the former Lazio player will have to be a little more patient.”
The decision to confirm Martinez was therefore linked to the delicate moment following the trip to Madrid. A change at that time would have been considered inappropriate by the coaching staff. Provedel, who arrived as a reliable backup goalkeeper, will therefore have to wait a little longer before starting as first-choice.
