While the celebrations for the tenth Coppa Italia won by Inter kick off at the Olimpico, in the Mediaset studios former defender Christian Panucci, now a pundit, responds after the many compliments towards the Nerazzurri team: “Inter had a great season, but it always seems like they’re being coddled. I mean, these guys play for Inter, they are strong players. Yes, they had a great season, but they were supposed to, and in Europe they didn’t do it.”
He continues: “We all took the moral blow even when we played. It’s not like we ended up in intensive care. In football you lose, you win, but the next year you start again. It always seems like people want to coddle this defeat, that they recovered, that they accomplished something extraordinary. I don’t think so, I think they are players who did very well in the league, they won the Coppa Italia, but it’s not like they all went to the hospital, to the ward, to intensive care. I don’t give them a 9.5, because in Europe they didn’t do well. I give them an 8.5 because you can’t say the main goal is the league.”
An analysis that sparked controversy and anger among many Inter fans, who complained on social media because they believe Inter’s successes have been excessively downplayed.
