Inter wants to rejuvenate its team and the new owner, Oaktree, is ready to support the process. Beginning with a department that includes two over-30s like Francesco Acerbi and Stefan de Vrij, who will turn 37 and 33 respectively in February 2025.

The Nerazzurri club is ready to fish among the young Italian talents and there is one who is standing out in Serie B, being one of the best in the entire championship: this is Nicolò Bertola from Spezia, a 21-year-old who seems ready to make the jump to A.

As filtered yesterday, a meeting was held during the week between Stefano Melissano, sporting director of the Ligurians, and Dario Baccin, deputy sporting director of the Nerazzurri and right-hand man of Piero Ausilio. During the meeting, they discussed Bertola’s situation: the defender’s contract expires in 2025 and so far he has not accepted the renewal proposals from the club, so there is a serious possibility he will become a free transfer.

Spezia wants to avoid this scenario and in this regard a meeting with Inter has been organized, given the historical good relations between the two companies. For now, the Ligurians have set a deadline of November 30, by which date Bertola will have to reveal and communicate his decision. In the meantime, discussions with the Nerazzurri continue to reach a beneficial agreement for both clubs.

The path – according to Tuttosport – is clear: Inter would buy Bertola in the January transfer window leaving him in Liguria for another six months. All this without any real financial outlay, as Spezia would be offered technical counterparts, but for the summer. Baccin has presented Melissano with a list of players who could be loaned or sold to Liguria with a resale percentage.

Among the names emerged from the meeting with the deputy sports director of the Nerazzurri are Belgian Zinho Vanheusden Mechelen, Aleksandar Stankovic Lucerne and Issiaka Kamate Avs. If Spezia were to remain in Serie B, Alessandro Fontanarosa Reggiana and Luca Di Maggio Perugia, all players still owned by the Nerazzurri, would also be appealing.

The competition in Serie A is mainly represented by Torino and Bologna, which however would only take the defender on a free transfer next summer, unlike the Nerazzurri plan. According to Tuttosport, Bertola is therefore increasingly considered to be close to joining Inter.
