The renewal signed with the Nerazzurri does not necessarily represent the final act of Henrikh Mkhitaryan‘s career. The Armenian midfielder has clarified his position on the future, leaving all possibilities open beyond the expiration of the current agreement.
“Obviously, I spoke with the club only after the match against Bologna, then I made my evaluations, I thought that maybe I can play another year. Obviously, it doesn’t mean that after this season I will stop, but you have to keep your mind on this championship, on this season, and then we will think about the coming years,” said the player.
The Armenian’s words deny the idea of a sort of last dance before retirement. When his contract expires, he will be 38 years old, but the intention to hang up his boots is not a given. It remains to be seen whether a possible extension would still come with the Nerazzurri shirt or elsewhere.
Meanwhile, Cristian Chivu can count on a player with great experience to guide the many young players in the squad this year.
