McKennie towards Inter-Juve: the press talks about the favorites for the scudetto

The Juventus midfielder Weston McKennie spoke ahead of the match against Inter, scheduled for today, addressing the topic of the challenge and the ambitions of both teams for the upcoming season.

According to Tuttosport, the American player sees the match as an opportunity for both teams to assess their current form. “Yes, it’s a preseason match, but I think in the end both teams are trying to understand where they are in their preparation for the new season,” he said. “I think it’s a great preparation match for us and I believe it is for the fans as well. I think it’s exactly what they want to see.”

The main goal remains to test the automatisms and the integration of the new signings. “But in the end, we mainly want to understand how we work together, see how the new players fit in, how they handle all this and how we handle it. We know Inter well. We face them continuously in the league, so it will be exciting and I think we are ready.”

On the role of favorites attributed to the Nerazzurri for the scudetto, McKennie responded diplomatically: “Is that what the newspapers say? I don’t know. I mean, I think any team in Italy has the chance to win the scudetto. Inter obviously has a strong team and won it last year. So, if people say that, I guess that’s what they think. Our job, however, is to focus on our game, on what we want to do and try to go out on the pitch and change the perception we have of ourselves.”

On Juve and the missing elements to return to the title, the midfielder identified some key aspects: “I’ve been here for six years and I think it’s simply about taking care of the small details: capitalizing on chances, closing out games when we’re ahead, but above all finding consistency in our play throughout the season. In the past we’ve had great moments and periods when we were very convincing, winning matches decisively. Then, however, there have been moments when we made small mistakes, giving away matches and points. So I think the coach and the technical staff are constantly trying to reiterate one concept: our biggest opponent is ourselves. If we want to achieve something, we simply have to stay focused and make it happen.”
