The lengthy trial involving England’s Manchester City officially began yesterday. The English club, which will make its debut in the new Champions League at home tomorrow evening against Simone Inzaghi’s Inter, will have to defend itself from the 115 charges brought by the Premier League for alleged financial irregularities.

A trial that is expected to last a whopping 10 weeks in front of an independent commission composed of three members, with the final verdict thus expected next spring. Although City has always claimed innocence, as pointed out this morning by La Gazzetta dello Sport, what has been dubbed at home as the ‘Trial of the Century’ could result in a ‘simple’ heavy fine to the expulsion of the club from the Premier League if the most serious charges were to be confirmed.
