Simone Inzaghi spoke to Prime Video and Sky Sport to comment on the 0-0 draw between Manchester City and Inter at the Etihad Stadium, in the first match of the new Champions League. Here are his words:

“The boys were good, they worked well together. We knew the opponent we were facing and we had many situations where we could hurt them. Very good in the first half, in the second we suffered a bit, but we had chances with Darmian and Mkhitaryan where we could have been better. We have to go on, after making our Champions League debut 3 days from the derby. This is the schedule, and we must adapt.”
“In the last league match too, we showed that we need to do better in the last 30 meters. Today was not easy, but we are a technical team. Today is the first time we didn’t score, and this will also be a reason for growth. Finishing is important and we work hard on it. We’ll try to work on it even more.”
“In the first half, Taremi could have scored, but he was good. Manchester City and Real are strong teams because they always give you the feeling of being able to concede a goal, but then they fix it. Taremi could have shot, but he was good at serving Carlos Augusto. In the second half, Darmian could have kicked it, but he said Barella called for the ball and the defender was good.”
“City hasn’t remained goalless at home since 2022? I would have liked to bring home the victory, because they have not lost since 2018.”

“We played a great game. The boys were gigantic as I had asked. Great match against one of the best teams in the world. With personality when we could play and we defended when we had to, also creating quite clear chances. We take the point on a very tough field.”
“Guardiola says we can win the Champions? In my opinion, they are very strong and if they are the best in the world, we played two balanced games, where the incidents decided it. Tonight it ended in a draw.”
“I made the choices based on what I see. There is no rotation, everyone plays well and deserves to play. Then the coach has to make choices. Then it’s normal that everyone wants to play certain games, but I have 22 players and I can’t make more than 15 play.”
“The derby? It will be a derby, we know what it means for the company and the fans, amazing even tonight. Now we need to recover some energy. Tomorrow we’ll return to Milan and try to prepare in a few days for this match. We’ll face a valuable team and we’ll try to prepare a great game.”
