In six days, the 2026/27 season of Inter begins, starting again with the tricolore on their chest and the clear goal of defending it. The mission is ambitious: to achieve back-to-back titles, that ability to confirm themselves at the top of Italy for two consecutive years, which has been missing in recent years to make this cycle even more important.
The feeling is that this Inter is even stronger than twelve months ago, despite that team coming off the disappointment of the Champions League final lost against PSG. Today, the overall level of the squad appears higher: just look at the names. The defense has further raised its level, as has the midfield, which could become even more competitive if Curtis Jones also arrives.
The gap between starters and alternatives has narrowed, and this can make the difference in a long season full of commitments. The attack has remained essentially the same, but even here something has changed. Francesco Pio Esposito is no longer just the young player to discover: he has shown he can be a real asset. And then there is Lautaro Martinez, who brings even more ferocity after what happened at the World Cup. The captain will be eager for redemption and to lead the team once again.
There is another element that cannot be ignored: there is no longer an “intern” on the bench. Cristian Chivu is the Italian champion coach, he has won the title, gained experience, and now faces the new season with a different weight on his shoulders and a team built also according to his ideas.
How far can this Inter go? Anywhere, because if previous Nerazzurri teams managed to reach the Champions League final twice, this one can also dream of achieving the same goal. Naturally, in Europe they are not favorites and a thousand variables come into play: the draw, injuries, physical condition, incidents, and that bit of luck that never hurts in decisive matches. But one thing is certain: this Inter can scare everyone.
It’s true, important players like Dumfries have left. But the feeling, looking at the squad as a whole, is that an even stronger, deeper, and more ready team is being born to face a grueling season. In Italy, they will start against everyone, every match will be a battle, especially because there is a tricolore to defend. In Europe, however, something more will be needed: courage, personality, sacrifice, and the ability to compete with the best.
