The refereeing performance of Michael Oliver in Real Madrid–Inter did not convince Gazzetta dello Sport, which gave the English referee a 5.5 rating. While acknowledging a good assessment of situations in the penalty areas, the newspaper noted some questionable decisions.
According to the Milan daily, Oliver could have avoided showing two of the yellow cards during the match. The yellow card given to Hakan Calhanoglu is described as excessive, while the booking of Yann Bisseck is also unconvincing.
There are still doubts about the foul by Bisseck on Cucurella, as highlighted by the Gazzetta: the Spaniard was not challenging for the ball, making the Inter defender’s intervention less serious than the referee assessed.
