After the draws and the publication of the schedule, Inter is now ready to officially announce the UEFA list for the next Champions League. The Nerazzurri will debut on Wednesday, September 18 away against Manchester City. Considering the composition of the squad and the constraints set by Nyon on the lists, the Nerazzurri will necessarily have to opt for a double exclusion. Let’s see why.

UEFA List: Inter’s situation

The deadline to submit the UEFA list is set this year for Tuesday, September 3, by 23:59. As for the composition, the maximum European governing body allows the registration of 25 players, provided that certain criteria are respected.

Of these, 8 players must be trained in Italy, meaning they have grown in the youth sector of one of the teams in our country. As it stands, the Nerazzurri would meet the criteria, but there is an additional indication: out of the 8 mentioned players, 4 must have been grown in the youth sector of the current club they belong to. Inter, in this sense, does not meet the requirements and will therefore have to face a reduction in the number of players available in the Champions League: from 25 to 23 players. This is the situation of the Nerazzurri:

– 7 from Italy’s youth sector (Frattesi, Acerbi, Darmian, Barella, Zielinski, Bastoni, Asllani);
– 2 from Inter’s youth sector (Dimarco, Di Gennaro).

We can consider Inter’s First Team squad as composed of 25 players. This is the squad available to Simone Inzaghi, who will have to necessarily lose two players in the Champions League:

Goalkeepers: Sommer, Martinez, Di Gennaro

Defenders: Bisseck, Pavard, Acerbi, De Vrij, Bastoni, Palacios

Midfielders: Barella, Frattesi, Calhanoglu, Asllani, Mkhitaryan, Zielinski, Darmian, Dumfries, Dimarco, Carlos Augusto, Buchanan

Forwards: Lautaro, Thuram, Taremi, Arnautovic, Correa

UEFA List, probable exclusions from Inter

One of the two exclusions will almost certainly be Buchanan, whose return is expected – at best – in November, when the first phase of the Champions League will be halfway through. For the other spot, it is a three-way toss-up between Correa, Arnautovic, and the new signing Palacios. Most likely, the Argentine striker will miss out. Inzaghi himself, in fact, had clarified in past weeks that he wanted to work with five forwards, even knowing that one could be left out of the Champions League.

This is the likely Inter UEFA list for the 2024-25 Champions League:
