After the verdict of the Champions League round of 16, only eight teams remain in contention to compete for football’s most coveted trophy. As previously established by the calendar, Inter will face Bayern Munich in the two-legged quarter-final tie: the first leg will be played in Germany on Tuesday, April 8th, and the return leg will be at San Siro on Wednesday, April 16th.
There were some surprises during the Round of 16, including the notable elimination of highly-rated Liverpool, defeated by Paris Saint Germain. Consequently, the predictions regarding the outright winner have also been updated, as until just a few days ago, Arne Slot‘s team was considered the leading candidate to win the Champions League.
According to the latest calculations from an algorithm developed by Opta, the team now deemed most likely to win the competition is Barcelona. Let’s see, however, which teams currently have the highest probabilities of reaching the semi-finals as per these forecasts.
Starting with the showdown between Inter and Bayern Munich, the Italian side is favored by the algorithm with a 57.3% chance of advancing to the next stage. Meanwhile, the Bavarians have a 42.7% probability of progressing.
The other quarter-final matches suggest that Barcelona, PSG, and Arsenal have higher odds of reaching the semi-finals compared to Borussia Dortmund, Aston Villa, and Real Madrid.
