The funeral of Franco Baresi took place yesterday morning in Milan. The champion who wore only the Milan jersey throughout his football career received a final farewell even from the executives of Inter, Beppe Marotta and Piero Ausilio. Also present at the ceremony was Beppe Bergomi, who was Baresi’s rival on the field but teammate in the national team.
Today in the Gazzetta dello Sport, Giovanni Galli explains why Baresi was respected even by his opponents. “Are you kidding? I have never heard a bad word about Baresi from a rival. Players like him or Maldini have no flaws, they cannot be criticized or attacked in any way. That’s why I imagine that even many fans of other teams have cried in these days of mourning.”
