Interviewed by the podcast Centrocampo, Dazn journalist Federica Zille addressed several topics, including, inevitably, Open VAR, the show she hosts every week. Among the various discussions, they also revisited one of the most talked-about episodes of last season, namely the penalty not awarded to Inter in the match against Roma for Ndicka’s foul on Bisseck. The controversy lasted a long time not only because that lost point later proved decisive in the Scudetto race, but also because, in that situation, Open VAR decided not to broadcast the audio from the VAR room, only recovering it at the end of the season with a special episode.
“I guarantee you that this year there have been no secret episodes. Previously, I wasn’t in charge, there was the Bisseck episode that we aired after weeks, I did an appendix myself at the end of the season, with Rocchi, and we let people hear that episode,” says Zille, “The idea of postponing the release, or even not airing it at all, was born to avoid controversy. Three times as much controversy came out because of this decision! So this year, when we sat down to plan Open VAR, we decided to let everything be heard, otherwise people think there’s something behind it and the idea of bad faith in some people is fueled.”
