No luck for Inter ahead of the upcoming Club World Cup, scheduled between June and July 2025 in the United States. The Nerazzurri club, which—like other participating teams—will be provided with an extra transfer window in the first ten days of June, hoped to add a ‘free of charge’ striker to Simone Inzaghi‘s squad.
As reported this morning by Tuttosport, however, this hope is set to be dashed. Indeed, Inter had counted on recalling Francesco Pio Esposito from his loan spell at Spezia to complete their attacking department, which will lose Correa and Arnautovic in the midst of the World Cup due to both contracts expiring on June 30th.
The young striker born in 2005, who yesterday signed a contract extension with Inter until 2030, will not instead be at the club’s disposal this summer. This is because the U-21 European Championship will take place from June 11th to 28th in Slovenia, with Pio Esposito set to play a key role for the Italian National Team. President Beppe Marotta, in this regard, does not appear willing to hinder the FIGC, and thus will not object to releasing the striker for participation in the tournament.
However, it’s still possible that upon returning from the European Championship, Pio Esposito may join up with Inter in case the team advances to the final stages of the Club World Cup. In any event, the striker will be evaluated by Simone Inzaghi during the next summer training camp, before deciding whether to keep him or send him out on another loan, this time in Serie A.
