Called to replace the injured Yann Sommer in recent weeks, Josep Martinez has shown himself perfectly equal to the role he was signed for by Inter last summer. The Spaniard, who up until last February had collected just one appearance in the Coppa Italia, has started in recent matches in both the league and Champions League.
The former Genoa player has swept away any doubts about him, showing great skill between the posts as well as with his feet. Particularly surprising was the incredible confidence Martinez transmitted to the entire team, especially when dealing with high crosses.
These improvements haven’t gone unnoticed in Spain, especially by the attentive eye of head coach Luis de la Fuente. As reported by the newspaper Marca, the national team manager is indeed considering giving the goalkeeper a chance with the Spanish squad. Even though it is unlikely that Martinez‘s name will appear on Spain’s squad list for the matches in March, the consideration toward him has increased dramatically in recent weeks.
