Douglas Costa retraced in an interview with Tuttosport the summer that changed his career, the one of his transfer to Juventus in 2017. The Brazilian revealed previously unknown details about the contacts and the teams interested in bringing him to Serie A.
“I knew they were interested in me,” admitted the player, referring to Inter. The confirmation came to him during a training camp with Brazil in Australia, when Alex Sandro asked him a direct question: “But would you come to Juve?” His national teammate had heard rumors about Inter’s interest in bringing him to Italy.
The first contacts with the Bianconeri club, however, dated back to months earlier. “Agnelli and Paratici already spoke to me at the end of Juve-Bayern Munich in the Champions League in 2016,” Costa recounted. The Brazilian was then playing for Bayern, where his playing opportunities were decreasing.
“With Ancelotti at Bayern Munich I would have played less, the coach was very clear with me,” he explained. The situation pushed the player to consider new options. When Paratici called, everything happened quickly. “It was a quick thing, but it started some time before,” he specified.
As for the reason behind his final choice, Costa left no doubts: “I never had any doubts, after all when Juve calls you can’t say no.” An answer that closes the circle on a negotiation that could have taken a different direction, with Inter initially on the player before the Bianconeri’s decisive move.
