The Frenchman delivered a two-sided performance in the match against Manchester City. Andy Diouf showed good qualities in the attacking phase, but struggled when called upon to defend: in the direct duel with Semenyo, he was beaten too easily, especially on the occasion of City’s goal. According to Tuttosport, the 2003-born player confirmed that he still needs time to adapt to the role of a complete winger.
Cristian Chivu praised the team’s overall performance against the English side, while reminding that the match ended in a draw after ninety minutes. However, the coach once again called for action in the transfer market: the squad has only three actual wingers and needs another alternative. “Is the priority on the right? If you count, that’s the case,” he explained. “Right now we have three and a half wingers. Carlos Augusto can play on the flank, but I prefer him as a defensive back.”
The situation also depends on the use of Luis Henrique, who can play on both sides. “Depending on how we consider him, on the right or the left, we are still missing one. The transfer window is still long: we need to be patient and choose well,” added Chivu.
The coach nevertheless highlighted the positive aspects: “I am happy because no one got injured. We arrived two days ago and only had a light training session, but the boys showed the pride of champions.” Important words also for Aleksandar Stankovic: “He played a good game, showing commitment, quality, and courage. The youngsters are getting a taste of football at a high level and we need to be patient.”
The team will now fly to Australia, where they will face Milan and Juventus. “The mission is to avoid injuries, train well, and improve our condition,” he concluded.
