In the wake of what happened on Sunday evening, once again Cristian Chivu found himself having to comment on a good performance by his boys, but which was instead followed by a negative result. Not an easy moment to face for the Nerazzurri coach who, speaking to Prime Video after the match, showed all his frustration. These were his statements on Atletico Madrid-Inter:
POST-MATCH – “I smoked three cigarettes, one after the other. I spoke to the team, I said what I had to say. There is regret, for the performance, for the premises, for what we put on the field. We didn’t deserve to lose, but lately we are bringing home almost nothing. I saw a lot of bitterness in the players, we deserved more tonight. This is football, you have to get back up and react, do everything to get out of it.”
FINAL BLOW – “These are moments, sooner or later luck will be on our side to bring home the match. It’s about managing moments, in the end we could have managed the counterattacks better, the final pass. Understanding when you need to keep the ball more. These are things we will analyze on video, then in the last minute from a corner kick… credit to them, less so to us. We had the tallest players we could have on the field, unfortunately it happens. We should have avoided getting to that corner kick. We could have countered, we lost the ball and that corner was born. But we have to start again.”
SUBSTITUTIONS – “Why did I change Bonny and Zielinski? Zielo had a problem with his thigh. For Bonny, we needed fresh legs, Marcus and Pio to push the team forward.”
