The intercontinental tour of Inter concludes tomorrow with the match against Juventus. Cristian Chivu presented the encounter in a press conference, taking stock of the training camp and talking about the transfer market needs of the Italian champions.
“A few pieces are missing, but there are also a few weeks left to show up at our best for the first match,” explained the coach. “The most important thing is that we have had few physical problems, it’s motivating and we are happy about that.”
Regarding tomorrow’s match, Chivu emphasized that it is a useful friendly to assess the team’s condition: “It’s always a preparation match in which to see the level and some principles conveyed, knowing that the legs are not sharp and not running at full speed.” As for the title contenders, the coach reiterated: “It’s always the usual teams that want to challenge the reigning champions. Inter is the team to beat.”
On the transfer market front, Chivu admitted that some deals did not go as hoped, but urged calm. “We have been calm from the start, aware of the value of the squad and what we need,” he stated. “We need to raise the level, to have players who know how to be part of a cohesive group that has achieved great things.”
Regarding the search for a right winger, the Nerazzurri coach clarified: “We haven’t set ourselves a deadline, the market is long and we know that patience is needed in certain situations, especially when some choices haven’t gone as we wanted. We are working on what we want to do, on what allows us to raise the level, that gives us quality and a certain type of experience.”
About the training camp, Chivu explained his philosophy: “We need minutes, that’s the most important thing. I don’t have a set lineup, there is no starting eleven on paper for me, only the best team based on the moment, the opponents, and how many matches we play in a week. My job is to involve everyone, to train everyone at the same time so that they are ready when called upon.”
