Chivu‘s Inter is focusing on versatility. The Nerazzurri squad has been built with players capable of covering multiple roles, a characteristic accentuated by the summer signings from the Premier League. Stones, Spence, and Jones have brought experience from a more intense league and, above all, a natural predisposition to move in different areas of the pitch.
According to Tuttosport, the Nerazzurri coach wants to bring Inter’s football closer to that of the Premier League and the teams that have dominated Europe in recent seasons. After the debacle in the Champions playoff against Bodo/Glimt last season, when he decided to rest many starters for the league run, Chivu intends to consistently bring the team back among the top eight. To achieve this, a more dynamic, vertical, fast, and varied style of play is needed, and the squad’s versatility becomes fundamental.
Andy Diouf has been adapted to the flanks but started as a box-to-box midfielder and has also played as a right attacking midfielder. Stones will be used in the center of defense, but he can also play as a wide center-back and, if necessary, as a defensive midfielder. Bisseck and Akanji have covered all positions in the back line, while Spence and Luis Henrique can play as wing-backs on both the right and left.
Carlos Augusto is the backup for Bastoni, but also for Dimarco. Jones, at Liverpool, has played as a right and left central midfielder, deep-lying playmaker, attacking midfielder, and even right winger.
