A few minutes before the kick-off of Inter–Parma, the Crociati sporting director Cherubini explained to Dazn microphones the reasons that led to the change between Cuesta and Gilardino on the Ducali bench.

“Last year we made a courageous choice, we went through many difficulties but it was a year in which we always found reasons to come together and overcome them,” said Cherubini. “This year we reacted differently in the face of difficulties, it’s better to part ways when things are — I won’t say going well — but we did it after a victory and as of today we are safe because it’s right not to take advantage of a negative moment.”

The director then outlined the club’s ambitions for the new phase: “We have built a more complete squad, we understand the fans’ thoughts, losing important players is not easy but we are working on a project that can last over time by combining sustainability and competitiveness.” He added that Parma does not want to take staying in Serie A for granted, recalling how the club’s history does not guarantee anything in this regard.

On the new coach, Cherubini was direct: “Gilardino is a motivated person, what I have always liked about him is his humility, he is not in Parma for what he did as a player, he earned everything starting from Serie D.” The coach, the sporting director emphasized, comes from a difficult season and is aiming for redemption, bringing with him a different playing system compared to his predecessor but with the same ambitions for sustainable growth.
