According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the Turkish midfielder will undergo instrumental tests today to obtain a more precise diagnosis.
There is no alarm at the moment: the decision to stop the player was made as a precaution. Calhanoglu remains, however, in serious doubt for the match against Roma on Saturday. Everything will depend on the results of today’s tests. This is the first real stop after an excellent start to the season, with the Turk scoring in the matches against Monza and Cagliari.
During the match against the Friulians, John Stones also had to stop, in his first start. The defender came off in the 62nd minute due to discomfort in the flexors of his left thigh and will be re-evaluated in the coming days. His return is expected after the break.
The caution regarding Calhanoglu should also be seen in light of the busy schedule and his recent history: in the last two years, the midfielder has missed 28 matches due to injury. This figure will weigh in any discussions about extending his contract, which expires in June, a topic that will be addressed during the season.
