Bonan on Pio Esposito: he is the Italian center forward of the next decade

According to Bonan, Pio Esposito represents the future of Italian football: “I believe he is Italy’s center forward for the next 10 years, both now and in the future. He can only improve, he is an international-level excellence. Big clubs have already moved for him, he is a treasure for Italy and for Inter.” The journalist then ventured an important comparison: “He has great physical strength and technique to refine, for me the comparison with Luca Toni is quite fair, but at his age Toni was on the bench, while Pio is a starter at Inter.”

There was also space for Alessandro Bastoni, whose mental growth he highlighted: “He has shown personality and mental solidity in this difficult year, which was not a given. What is a given is that we are talking about a talent, a modern defender.” Bonan recalled past transfer rumors: “A player of the highest level, the one who had the most market value and Inter, for 80 million, might have thought about selling him. Then, luckily for Inter, he stayed.”

Regarding the national team, the journalist expressed satisfaction with the attitude shown: “I saw a hungry national team and it had been a long time since I’d seen our Italy like that. The national team was pushing, Turkey was sleeping. I saw an Italy that wanted to close it out as soon as possible.” The inclusion of the two Esposito brothers was an added value: “Playing the two Esposito brothers gave an even better contribution to the offensive phase.”
