Speaking to DAZN, former striker Fabio Bazzani commented on Inter‘s 3-1 defeat in the derby, focusing on the attitude shown by Chivu‘s team during the match. The assessment was not positive: according to Bazzani, the Nerazzurri repeated the same approach mistakes already seen previously.
“The derby is not a match like the others,” said the former striker. “Since the defeat against Bologna, the derby match had already begun, Milan had a different energy. Inter seemed to me like the team in Venice: there they won in a fortuitous way, tonight, down 2-0, they couldn’t recover.” Bazzani then broadened his reasoning, highlighting how the problem concerns an attitude that has already emerged in other matches this season: “It should make us reflect that Inter, even in such a match, had a wrong approach as in other games.”
The central point of his reasoning concerns the concept of provincialism, often mentioned by the Nerazzurri coach. “Chivu talks about provincialism and being provincial, today Inter did not approach the game as if they were a small team, otherwise you don’t concede those goals.” According to Bazzani, the problem lies in the perception of danger: “Chivu is working not to take away the awareness of still being the strongest, but Inter does not perceive the danger.”
In Bazzani’s analysis, there is also room for a specific play by Nicolò Barella, criticized for a dribble attempt in the final minutes of the first half. “With Barella attempting a dribble in the last minute of the first half, the coach can’t do anything about it, it’s up to the player to feel the fear of not making that dribble. Barella is very strong, Inter is very strong, and this provincialism Chivu talks about is hard for them to have.”
