The situation at Bayern became tense following recent injuries sustained by several key players. Apart from the setbacks for Neuer and Upamecano, the one that particularly infuriated the Bayern Munich board was the injury suffered by Alphonso Davies.
The Canadian wide player suffered a cruciate ligament rupture while on international duty for his national team, in a match that, according to the German club, he should not even have played given his already compromised condition, which was known to the Canadian federation. This triggered an angry response from Bayern, which issued an official statement demanding detailed explanations from the Canadian Football Association.
The statement from the German club reads as follows: We are requesting a full clarification from Canada on the events, and we expressly reserve our right to take legal action. From our perspective, sending a clearly injured player—whose knee was already compromised—on a twelve-hour intercontinental flight without proper medical assessment is seriously negligent and represents a clear breach of medical duty.
