Speaking to Sport Mediaset, Alessandro Bastoni analyzed the 1-1 draw achieved by Italy away against France on the third day of the Nations League. The Inter defender, who scored the final 1-1 goal, expressed satisfaction with the performance of the Azzurri.
“We knew that coming here would be very tough because of the quality of their players and that we would have to suffer, and we did that very well in the first half. Despite this, perhaps we had the clearest chances. We conceded the goal and we did well to react because a more fragile team could have taken the hit. The fact that we leave this pitch with some regrets says a lot about tonight’s match,” said the Nerazzurri center-back.
Regarding the criticism following the defeat against Belgium, Bastoni responded calmly: “Do we deserve an apology after Belgium? There’s no need because we still need patience, but after Turkey we will come out even more. There will still be bad days, but we want to become a recognizable team, it doesn’t matter whether it’s France or the last in the ranking.”
The player then emphasized the importance of maintaining balance: “We have great enthusiasm but we need to find balance. What did I like most about the team? The ability to suffer a lot. The forwards and wingers were often close to me. We never gave up despite the excitement in the stadium. It will be a long journey but we want to keep going like this.”
