Massimiliano Allegri, on the eve of the Milan derby, spoke to DAZN’s microphones to comment on his team’s current form and the importance of the match against Inter.
“A positive result leaves good feelings, while a negative one inevitably brings disappointment. However, there will still be many matches and we will need to analyze every performance to try to improve,” explained the coach.
During the interview, a comment from Rafael Leao was mentioned, in which he compared Allegri to a father figure. “I’m pleased by what he said. My staff and I try to support all the players to help them grow. Leao has taken an important step, he has understood that a striker is judged by the goals he scores.”
When asked if Leao could reach 20 goals this season, Allegri replied cautiously: “For now he has 4, let’s hope he continues like this and then we’ll see.”
On Adrien Rabiot’s return to the field, he highlighted his contribution: “He is an important player who can change the course of a game. In the squad there are players with great experience and others with fewer minutes in their legs. The main objective remains to return to the Champions League.”
When asked if he dreams of a decisive goal at the last minute, he joked: “Scoring in the 90th minute would be better, there would be less suffering. But we need to play a high-level match, because Inter is very strong.”
As for the title race, Allegri reiterated: “It’s not about pressure. When you work at a club with great ambitions, the goal must be to qualify for the next Champions League. But you also need ambition, because in the end the championship is won by the strongest team.”
Finally, he recalled past derbies: “The best one remains the first we won. Unfortunately, I lost all of the last four.”
