On Saturday, the season of Inter Under 23 will officially begin, as they play their first competitive match in the Serie C Coppa Italia. The young Nerazzurri will visit Lumezzane at 9 PM, a team that finished last season in 15th place in Group A, which is the same group where Inter will play.
This Inter U23 project got off to a great start and has been entrusted to a coach who is experienced in the category and also has a deep knowledge of the Inter world, Stefano Vecchi. The person in charge is Dario Baccin, while the sporting director personally handling the signings is Gianluca Andrissi.
The first summer friendlies immediately gave good hope to the Nerazzurri management and fans, as several young talents managed to shine brilliantly. First came a 2-2 draw against Trento (another team they will face in Serie C), then a defeat but still some good signs in a 7-2 loss against Inter’s first team, and finally two wins: first 1-2 away at Albinoleffe and then 1-4 away at Pro Vercelli.
The work to be done has been studied with great care and attention in order to avoid relegation, as happened to Milan Futuro last season, who will in fact play in Serie D in the next championship. The medium-term goal for Inter’s U23 is also to be able to move up to Serie B to further raise the level of competition their young players face before sending them to the first team.
And how can this be achieved? The Nerazzurri club has clear ideas about the style of play that Inter U23 must pursue, which should be as similar as possible to that of the first team. Vecchi is in fact carrying out very specific work based on the 3-5-2 formation, which the best talents of this second team will then need to be able to play with Chivu in Serie A.
From midfield upwards, however, there are many options, so today it is not possible to rule out alternatives for the mezzali (central midfielders), trequartisti (attacking midfielders), and forwards. A lot of work is also being done on the midfield chain with two very interesting prospects, Berenbruch and Topalovic, who need to get used to playing in this position and consistently performing both phases of play.
Finally, to help the young Nerazzurri grow, several experienced players who know Serie C (and also Serie B) well have arrived from the transfer market and can be points of reference in the locker room. The captain will be Giuseppe Prestia, a defender born in 1993 signed from Cesena, but other experienced additions include goalkeeper Riccardo Melgrati and midfielder Luca Fiordilino. They are also looking for a striker who knows the category and could possibly score double-digit goals.
The latest signing is Antonio David, a left-back born in 2004 who joins the other new young talents who arrived over the summer: Simone Cinquegrano (right-back), Richi Agbonifo (right winger), and Tommaso Avitabile (right-back). Also keep an eye on the name of the young Argentine talent Lucas Scarlato, who remains in the orbit of Inter U23.
All of them join a large group of players promoted from the Primavera and youth teams, which includes: Calligaris Raimondi, Zamarian, Alexiou, Fontanarosa, Re Cecconi, Stante, Motta, Garonetti, Cocchi, Zanchetta, Berenbruch, Bovo, Topalovic, Kamate, Zarate, Mosconi, Sarr, Zuberek, and Spinaccè.
