This winter market, as was widely speculated, has closed for Inter without major shocks in terms of arrivals. The only real purchase of the Nerazzurri was that related to Nicola Zalewski, seized in the last days of the session on loan from Roma with a buyback option set at 6.5 million euros.
Both for contractual and technical reasons, Inter had decided well in advance to postpone until next summer the bulk of the investments planned by Oaktree on incoming players, respecting the age and sustainability parameters widely shared by the sports side led by president Beppe Marotta.
In this exploration, let’s take a look at seven different shots that Inter has planned to make next summer, starting from the extra market window created by Fifa from 1 to 10 June for clubs competing in the World Cup, up to the traditional July and August session.
- Let’s start with the central defender of the three-back set-up, a role long in the sights of the Nerazzurri management. Contrary to what might have been imagined at the beginning of the season, to date De Vrij is the player most likely to stay, more so than Acerbi. The former Lazio player has in fact been hampered by multiple injuries this season. It is easy to speculate that this role could be the recipient of the biggest investment of the summer, unless the decision is made to permanently move Bisseck to center-back.
- The second deal may concern the redemption of Zalewski, set at 6.5 million. The Polish winger made a great start in the derby against Milan, but he will have a good four months to prove that he is a Inter level player. With Roma, relations are excellent and could facilitate other discussions. In addition to the outgoing Frattesi, the name of a defender like Evan Ndicka, always appreciated by Viale della Liberazione, might come back into fashion.
- By necessity, given the contracts of Arnautovic and Correa expiring on June 30, Inter will have to take action to add another striker to the squad. We’ve already shared the hot trail leading to Nikola Krstovic from Lecce, without excluding another center forward who Simone Inzaghi looks fondly upon, like Santiago Castro from Bologna.
- Eyes are set on the best talents that are making a name for themselves in this championship and that Inter has already gathered information on. The first on the list is definitely Nico Paz, a playmaker that Como would like to keep, despite still being under the control of Real Madrid who could re-buy his tag. Argentine Zanetti has already approached the player’s father, with whom he has a long-standing friendship. Also, don’t overlook another prospect like Samuele Ricci, one of the best midfielders in this Serie A and already in the Italian National Team’s radar. Recently, Bernabé, another talented player, has climbed up positions in the Nerazzurri radar.
- The fifth target could be a returning horse. There are many young players bred in the Nerazzurri youth sector who are making a name for themselves elsewhere. Pio Esposito, for instance, will return from loan at Spezia but might leave temporarily to gain experience in Serie A. Another name is Giovanni Fabbian, for whom there is a buy-back option valid until next summer. Tomas Palacios’s growth should also be watched, he immediately became a starter at Monza after the loaned out this winter.
- Who is already certain to wear the Inter jersey from next summer, is Petar Sucic. The 2003-born midfielder from Dinamo Zagreb has already been purchased by the Nerazzurri for 14 million euros plus 2 million bonus. The Croatian talent will only be made official next June and will continue to wear the Dinamo jersey for the second part of the season. It is not ruled out that he may take part in the Club World Cup with Inter.
- The seventh and last shot actually involves
