The name of Lorenzo Pellegrini is returning to prominence around the offices of Viale della Liberazione. The Roma midfielder, who had already been linked to Inter last January in connection with the Giallorossi’s well-known interest in Davide Frattesi, continues to be closely monitored by the Nerazzurri executives.
According to today’s edition of Il Messaggero, coach Simone Inzaghi greatly appreciates Pellegrini, believing he has potential yet to be fully expressed. The newspaper reports specifically that the Inter manager considers him the ideal successor for Mkhitaryan, another player previously signed from Roma during a less-than-positive period at the club.
Considering a contract set to expire in June 2026 and renewal which appears unlikely at the moment, Pellegrini might leave as early as next summer. As the newspaper points out: Up to now, no one at the club has spoken either with him or with his agents about a possible renewal. His contract finishes in 2026, and in June—for the first time in his career—he might seriously consider the option of leaving, something he didn’t do even in January despite receiving at least two very intriguing proposals. As of now, looking towards the summer window, Inter seems a more likely option than Napoli, especially since Inzaghi sees Lorenzo as the ideal replacement for the 36-year-old Mkhitaryan. But it’s only mid-March, and the scenario is still unfolding.
