It was clear from the early minutes that Inter-Fiorentina wasn’t just another emotionally charged game, with Simone Inzaghi being more aggravated than usual. The coach also vented his anger towards the opponents, especially the Tuscan team’s coach Raffaele Palladino.
The reasons for this are explained by La Gazzetta dello Sport. There are field-related incidents: the two coaches supposedly had a heated argument firstly because of a corner kick which resulted in the 1-0 goal, and then due to a penalty conceded for a handball by Darmian. At the final whistle, the Inter coach is also said to have celebrated while directly addressing Palladino.
However, the tense relationship between the two is believed to have an even earlier origin: in the 2022/2023 season, Inter couldn’t defeat Palladino’s Monza in either the home or away game, a critical period for Inzaghi’s coaching position. According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Neapolitan coach had therefore become a kind of bogeyman for the Inter coach.
