After months of apparent stalemate, in recent days Paris Saint Germain has decided to take a first step towards renewing the contract of Gigio Donnarumma. The strong Italian goalkeeper’s contract is set to expire in June 2026 and he has recently been heavily discussed in the market. Among the clubs ready to sniff out a possible free deal, for example, there has been concrete interest from Inter.
At this time, the Nerazzurri club view Sommer as a very reliable goalkeeper. The Swiss, however, will turn 37 next December and, like Donnarumma, his contract will expire in June 2026. The Italian could therefore become the perfect candidate to take over his legacy in the Nerazzurri goalposts.
Obstructing Inter’s hopes, however, could be Paris Saint Germain. Donnarumma has always admitted he wants to extend his contract with the French club, despite negotiations not yet taking off between the parties. Recently, according to RMC Sport, the Parisian club has decided to reestablish contact with the goalkeeper’s entourage.
The idea of PSG is to propose a contract renewal at figures lower than the current salary of 10 million euros plus bonuses. The club is reviewing its wage policy and the main casualty could be the goalkeeper. Despite this, there is certain optimism in France about the negotiations for Donnarumma’s new contract. The goalkeeper’s desire to stay in Paris could still prove decisive.
At this point, Inter is unlikely to force the issue with the player. While the former Milan’s profile is greatly appreciated by the Nerazzurri leadership, a possible assault would only be attempted in the future under certain conditions. Among these, the possibility of signing him for free just over a year from now, something PSG would like to avoid with a new contract.
