Marcus Thuram is called upon to be the driving force in the derby della Madonnina. With Lautaro Martinez sidelined due to injury, the French striker takes on the responsibility of leading the attack for Milan–Inter, with kick-off scheduled for 8:45 PM tonight at San Siro. It’s a match in which he will also have to break a personal goal drought in the city derby that has lasted for some time.
According to Corriere dello Sport, the former Gladbach striker hasn’t scored in the derby since April 2024: the last time was on April 22 of that year, when the Nerazzurri won the city derby and clinched the Scudetto with their second star. Since then, in subsequent direct encounters with Milan, Thuram has never found the back of the net.
The striker arrives at this appointment in the best form of the season. After the last international break, he has always started from the first minute in the six matches played, scoring in three consecutive games — against Parma, Bologna, and Fiorentina — and contributing to Venezia’s first own goal in the midweek round. Even Chivu on the eve confirmed the player’s good physical condition, fielding him as a key player.
Regardless of whether he is partnered by Esposito or Bonny, the Frenchman aims to be the reference point for the entire team, as he already demonstrated by turning the tide against Fiorentina and sparking the comeback against Bologna. A player whom Inter, at the moment, cannot do without, despite the heavy minutes accumulated over the past three weeks.
In addition to the derby, the Nerazzurri will have to face the trip to Feyenoord for the Champions League and then the home match against Como: a busy week of commitments before the next break. In the meantime, Thuram is also aiming to earn a call-up from coach Zidane with the French national team.
