On the eve of Venezia–Inter, Chivu has already resolved at least one of the remaining issues: who will guard the goalposts at the Penzo. According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the Nerazzurri coach has decided to confirm Provedel as the starter in the match against the lagoon side, reserving the starting shirt for Martinez in the following derby against Milan.
The newspaper outlines an almost precise rotation between the two goalkeepers, while emphasizing that neither of them is being questioned. Provedel himself, fielded as a starter for the first time against Fiorentina, conceded the great right-footed shot from Jimenez before redeeming himself against Gnonto. A debut that leaves room for evaluation, despite the positive result.
On the Martinez front, Gazzetta recalls inconsistent performances: clean sheets against Parma and Shakhtar on the positive side, mistakes in the matches with Real and Udinese on the negative. The club and coach had chosen him as the heir to Sommer, but so far the gamble has only partially paid off. The goalkeeper issue remains open, with Inter still not providing solid guarantees between the posts.
In the background, there is also the intriguing story of Filip Stankovic, son of Dejan: at the Penzo he will be an opponent of the team that sold him outright in 2024, retaining a 50% resale clause, ready to challenge his brother and showcase himself in front of the Nerazzurri top management, with a view to a possible future return.
