On the eve of the Champions League clash against Shakhtar Donetsk, Chivu gave an interview to Sky Sport in which he addressed several topics: from the approach to the European competition to the words spoken after the match with Brugge, up to the issue of a possible unspectacular victory.

On the European stage, the Inter coach made it clear that Champions League matches should never be underestimated. “All matches in the Champions League are difficult, we face prepared and evolved opponents who know how to play,” he said. “They come to San Siro and want to be protagonists, they have nothing to lose. You need to have the right desire and determination, and we want to have them starting tomorrow night.”

Chivu then clarified the meaning of his post-Brugge statements, which had left some questions. “I was talking about myself, about the way I approach the boys, explaining better: I wasn’t referring to anything else,” he specified. “I always take responsibility for what I don’t do and for what I could improve. I am very concerned with finding the right key and the things that are functional to our identity. That was what I was referring to.”

On the topic of a potentially unconvincing victory, the coach responded with a clear vision. “I want my players to be aware of the importance of the matches: you must not lose sight of the game of football,” he explained. “I want my players to enjoy themselves in difficulties and adversity. These things give you more chances to bring home the desire to win.”
