Inter locked down Lautaro Martínez last summer, rejecting concrete interest from Barcelona. According to Sport.es, the Nerazzurri captain had considered a move to the Blaugrana, but he set a specific condition: to reach an amicable agreement with the Milanese club, to which he is deeply attached.
The decisive point came from Inter’s management. Marotta reportedly made it clear to Joan Laporta, during a direct contact, that the Argentine was to be considered untouchable. At the end of August, there was not enough time to find a suitable replacement, and the squad planning had already been completed without the need for any incoming or outgoing transfers.
Barcelona’s sporting director, Deco, confirmed in recent days the Catalan club’s interest, but explained that a firm refusal had come from Milan. Lautaro has been in Milan since 2018 and has become the symbol of the team. Two years ago, he renewed his contract until 2029 with a significant financial adjustment, also removing the release clause present in the previous agreement.
According to Sport.es, Barcelona had also studied the economic feasibility of the operation. The Blaugrana club had kept open the possibility of a sale to create the necessary salary space for Lautaro’s arrival in Catalonia. The wall erected by Inter made any financial maneuver useless. The Nerazzurri club’s position definitively closed any room for negotiation.
