The sports judge has imposed a fine of 10,000 euros on Juventus for the behavior of a group of ultras during the minute of silence in memory of Sandro Mazzola, who passed away the previous week. Before the match against Atalanta, some fans in the Juventus curva turned their backs to the field and made noise during the tribute to the champion.
The Piedmontese club immediately distanced itself with a very harsh statement, condemning the disrespectful gesture towards a legend of Italian football. The rest of the crowd present at the stadium stood out for their respectful behavior, participating in the minute of silence.
The Corriere della Sera revisits what happened with the thoughts of Daniele Dallera, who points out that many were surprised by the amount of the fine: “Only 10,000 euros???”, the question in the face of such horror and desecration of the feelings and values of a champion like Sandro Mazzola, who always united and never divided.
In the reasoning for the measure, the sports judge explained that the sanction was reduced precisely thanks to the club’s prompt formal stance and the dissociation of the rest of the crowd. The one who did not understand the scope and magnitude of the gesture is the sports judge himself, who sought a mitigating factor instead of exemplary punishment for that fringe of fans who should be permanently banned from entering the stadium.
