Zenga on the gesture from the Juve Curva: respect comes before everything else

The former Nerazzurri goalkeeper Walter Zenga expressed his thoughts on the behavior of some Juventus fans during the minute of silence dedicated to Sandro Mazzola. At the Juventus Stadium, part of the Curva chose to turn their backs while the memory of the former Nerazzurri captain was being honored, as required by the FIGC in all Serie A stadiums.

Bergomi also responded to that gesture last night during a live broadcast on Sky. The former Nerazzurri goalkeeper did so with a post on social media: “There are moments when the shirt, the colors, and the rivalry should simply disappear. A minute of silence does not mean being an Inter, Juventus, or Milan fan. It means having respect.” The former number one then added: “Sandro Mazzola was a great man of football, a champion of the National Team, and a piece of our sport’s history. Turning your back during the minute dedicated to his memory is a gesture I cannot understand and that I find deeply sad.”

The goalkeeper concluded by drawing a clear line: “Rivalry belongs to football. Respect belongs to people. And it comes before everything else.”
