At the microphones of Sky Sport, Beppe Bergomi wanted to remember Sandro Mazzola, who passed away yesterday at the age of 83. “Lo Zio” retraced the bond that united him with the Nerazzurri legend, starting from his first steps in the youth sector of Inter.
“I joined the Inter youth team in 1977, Mazzola had just ended his career and I had Corso as my coach. The protagonists of the Grande Inter have always been a point of reference for us. They made us understand the meaning of wearing that shirt. He was a true champion, I later had him as a director and there is an episode I like to remember.”
“We used to play on Saturdays at Pinetina, he and the first team would come to watch us. He said to Bersellini: ‘Look, maybe that boy is ready to make his debut.’ He believed in me from the very beginning, we always had a wonderful relationship. I owe a lot to Sandro Mazzola, and for this I will always remember him. He was the kind of footballer who made so many Inter fans fall in love and inspired many to support this team.”
“For me he was an important person, with great values. A flag not only of Inter, but of all Italian football,” concluded Bergomi.
